Zedd and Me

We have a new addition to our family. I've been up all night, worried about feeding schedules, and cleaning up pee and poop. It's not a baby. It's a puppy. I forgot how much a puppy is like a brand new baby. I woke up this morning wishing for a cup of coffee, and I don't drink coffee. (Luckily, my husband read my mind and brought me a giant Dr. Pepper.)

A puppy is tons of work, but since loosing our dog of thirteen years, almost a year ago, our family was missing something. I'm ready to deal with the potty training and the late nights to have a special friend in my life again.

I recently talked to a friend who has been crushed by the loss of some friendships. I was shocked that as an, shall we say, established-adult, she had never been through the heartache of a friend's betrayal. I have experienced this heartache and here are my lessons about friendship, learned courtesy of the school of hard knocks:

1)  The only person you can control is yourself.
2) At times you will make mistakes and a true friend will forgive you.
3) At times you will disagree and real friends will respect your opinions.
4) There will be times when you have to walk away from a friendship and times when others will walk away from you. Life goes on.
5) Always conduct yourself in a way that you can be proud of, then let the chips fall where they may.
6) Get yourself a dog. When your world falls apart, he will be there for you.
